PG Vs VG : Find Your Personal Preference

Vape base

Although a lot of people do vape these days, many of them are completely unaware of its intricacies. For vape enthusiasts, vaping is not just about the action and the experience, but rather they are fascinated by the device technology and the chemistry behind vaping liquids.

Expert vapers know that there are basically two different types of e-liquid bases. Electric smokers use liquids with a Propylene Glycol (PG) base or a Vegetable Glycerin (VG) base. Knowing what they are and how they differ will help understand how they can impact your vaping experience.

Propylene Glycol (PG)

PG is an e-liquid base which has a runny consistency when compared to the viscous vegetable glycerin. As PG is a thinner variety, it is easily absorbed by the cotton fabric inside cartomizers and wick tanks and doesn’t leave sticky residues inside the tank.

As PG is a tasteless base, it is the perfect choice for flavored e-liquids. Even so, it can easily deliver a strong throat hit just like tobacco making it a good choice for individuals who start vaping to quit smoking. However, PG absorbs moisture from your throat, making you feel dehydrated after a while of continuous vaping.

Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

VG, as mentioned earlier, is more viscous and thicker. It also has a sweeter taste on its own, limiting the flavors you can use with this e-liquid base. Using an e-liquid with VG base will also give out a lot more vapor although the throat hit is much lighter than when using a PG.

The viscosity of VG leads to sticky residues inside the device tank and can be cleaned only using alcohol-based cleaning solvents. Due to its thick consistency, the cotton wick will also take time to work as you will have to wait for it to soak completely. But unlike in the case of PG, your throat will not feel dehydrated after longer use of the vape.

Mixed e-liquids

Most e-liquids available in the market are a mixture of PG and VG forgetting the advantages of both. Mixing them in a ration of 70/30 or 60/40 will make up for a balanced flavor and vapor production. As both liquid bases are food grade and considered safe for consumption and rarely cause an allergic reaction in people, both pure forms and mixed bases are good choices for e-liquid bases.

Both PG and VG have their own advantages and setbacks and choosing to use them in their pure form or mixed form is a personal preference. If you want a lighter throat hit and a lot of vapor, you can choose VG or a mixture with a higher concentration of VG and if you are an ex-smoker turned to vape and needs a higher throat hit, then it is PG for you .
